Cenov’s location was programmed into the wormhole drive’s program, allowing them to move much quicker than the Brack had ever traveled. Jules didn’t like having Ranul and Uthmal on their warship, but given the circumstances, they couldn’t delay. If the Planner was now active and truly a Recaster, the opposing forces of Papa and this being could be enough to destroy the universe.

Jules glanced at the pair of Brack, noticing the witch appeared even older today. Her spell of reincarnation wouldn’t last for much longer.

“All set,” Rumi said, and Jules snapped to attention.

“Good. Let’s fly to Cenov without any issues,” she ordered.

Hectal glanced at her, then at the single Brack drop trooper behind his leaders. It was obvious the Keppe warrior wasn’t pleased with the company, and neither was Jules.

Dean sat in the commander’s chair beside her, brow furrowed, cheeks slightly red. He’d been against this as well, claiming they needed to head home to discuss things with Magnus and her parents before they rushed into the enemy’s nest. But according to Ranul, they weren’t opponents. Not if they intended to stop the Planner.

Jules had to trust the woman was telling the truth—which, given their sordid history, wasn’t simple. In the end, she’d allowed the crew to comment. Jaessa was the most vocal, suggesting the Brack were playing a sick game with them. Sergo thought finding the Planner was imperative, and Hectal supported his Padlog friend.

Rumi powered the wormhole generator on. Cracking blue and white energy filled the tubes, shooting into space around Venture.

Their warship flew into the maw, vanishing from sight, and they pressed out of the opposite end, nearing the Brack’s home world. Regnig had discovered various instances of the Planner traveling to different planets. Each revolved around him bringing meteor showers with him, but there was a chance that the information was wrong. Perhaps he wanted to fix their issues. With the Fera people, he’d come after their land was devastated. He called himself the Planner, assisting them with a vast knowledge of infrastructure and technology.

Maybe it wasn’t like they’d assumed. Instead of this second Recaster trying to wage destruction, was he really cleaning up the mess of random asteroid collisions? If that was the case, the story of his time on Cenov didn’t add up. They claimed he’d walked the land as the meteors struck their oceans and cities. Then he vanished. This was only a few decades ago. Where had the man gone in the meantime?

The planet’s atmosphere was covered in dust and smoke, making it impossible to see the surface. It reminded her of Dust, the world Slate had returned from.

“This is home,” Ranul whispered.

“Yes. Please find the Planner,” Uthmal said.

“We’ll do our best. Where was he last seen?” Jules passed a tablet to the woman.

Ranul opened a map of their most populated region and zoomed in on the landlocked city, but it was her father that spoke. “This. Yeresh, our capital. He came, cloaked and disfigured. His hands were lumps, his face a blank canvas, like melted wax.
